My heart began pounding in my chest as I saw my name in red, I had been selected. It was the day of the selection. I would be going to the Upper Pantheon.
The fear of the unknown dawned upon me. What is up there? What will happen to me? I picked up my logs and dragged my feet through the sticky green slush on the ground as aggressive wild dogs growled as I passed. I moved slowly through the streets with tears in my eyes as I knew I would have to tell the news to my parents.
I walk through the door to my mother cooking dinner and my father resting on the chair with his broken leg. I had been working in place of my father, for the last 6 months now as we could not find the funds or a doctor with the resources to aid him. My hands have grown calluses and my arms have grown strong from carrying and chopping down trees for firewood.
I gathered both of them into our small living room and I told them the news… They both grabbed onto me tightly in disbelief sobbing away I could feel their hearts beating as they grasped me tightly. I motioned towards the door and opened it, but my parents tried to hold me down, but I knew it was just a matter of time before they bragged in through the door.
