Maybe it wasn’t just a dream…

You wake up in a library, confused and anxious about what is next to come.  “What was that dream? How did I even get here, and more importantly, how do I get out?” You decide it’s time to get out of this place and begin to wander among the numerous books that line the shelves of the library.

After roaming around on your free will, a sudden shadow looms over you, before flying away. What in the world was that? Curiosity killed the cat, but maybe this shadowy figure is the only thing that can help me understand how I got here. Despite all your urges telling you to not follow a mysterious and probably dangerous shadowy figure, you decide to follow it.

Weaving through the endless bookshelves, jumping over random tables and chairs, and breathing some heaps of dust, you chase the shadowy figure as it swiftly begins to move away from you. Turning the corner, you abruptly stop, almost falling over, as you prevent yourself from falling over a- a pigeon? Wearing a bird-sized detective hat with a small brown bag over its shoulder. Upon closer inspection, it also holds a bottle that contains paper inside. It looks at you curiously, as you kneel down to the bird’s level so it doesn’t fly away. Reaching your hand out in an alliance, the bird drops the bottle into the palm of your hand. You pull off the cork of the bottle and jiggle out the piece of paper. Suddenly, holographic text jumps from the paper. The font isn’t too big, but you’re able to make it out by squinting your eyes to read it. It reads:

“To Whom this may concern,

How many times must I ask to write to you? I am doing you a favour. It is not often-”

Wait a second. This is-

The bird flies off, leaving the bottle for you to keep. Maybe this wasn’t just a weird dream you thought it was; the creeping feeling of deja vu fills you as you close your palm around the bottle carefully. Maybe that bird was you, maybe that bird is you, but you definitely know, that was an ace detective.
