The room was dim and the only source of light appeared from the bright moon that shined through the small window. I used my eyes to examine every inch of the window. It was old and drafty but large enough to fit my body. I peaked over the glass and spotted a ledge that ran under the window. Across from it was a large tree with sturdy branches that scraped along the edge of the ledge at the edge of the house. I would be able to walk along the ledge and climb down the tree.
The plan was perfect, all I needed to figure out was how to open the window that seemed like it was sealed shut. I placed my sweaty palms on the window rail and tried lifting it with all my strength but it wouldn’t open. I slowly reached to my hidden knife that was strapped around my ankle. Grasping on tightly to the handle of the knife I placed it under the window rail and forced it open.
A gust of air broke through onto my heated face. The air was cold but refreshing. I slowly squeezed my body through the window and carefully placed my heel onto the ledge. It was narrow and slippery. Adjusting my balance I began to make my way to the end grasping onto the wall of the house behind me and using my knife to maintain my balance. I reached the end of the ledge and jumped onto the tree branch. I made my way down the tree and let out a sigh of relief. I escaped.
