From Enemies to Lovers

Ever since the ball and the events that were unveiled throughout the process. Lord Fartimore has been visiting me often, sometimes just for an afternoon tea, sometimes for some combat sparring that occurs in the backyard. Sometimes he even bringing little trinkets with him such as jewels, necklaces, and other shiny stones that I have never seen down in the undercity. I wasn’t even sure sometimes what these are used for, and he would often laugh at me and tease me for it before finally putting it on for me. Although sometimes I wonder if these trinkets would get in the way during training, or during combat, I quickly diminished those thoughts knowing it is his way to show affection. Today was the same, Lord Fartimore walked gently through the usual gated doors that I thought were always too grand, majestic, and big for its intended purpose. I caught myself staring out the attic window and watching him stroll through the front garden, and shook myself out of it as he looked up to my window. As he neared the door, I ran down the stairs and swung it open with excitement, surprising him.

“Woah, you scared me!” He exclaimed with the same amount of excitement.

“Did you miss me?” I asked with curiosity, knowing full well what his eventual answer was.

“Of course, I’m here to get revenge for how much you beat me up yesterday during sparring.” He said with a smirk on his face as he stepped past me through the door.

As he walked to sit down at the table, I pranced behind him, dancing step by step as I inched towards him.

“Have you given any more thought into the idea I proposed last time? Having the top layer joint with the underlevel can be good for both sides!” I said to him as I gently sat down beside him and leaned my head against his left shoulder.

“I have thought about it a bit more, but in all honesty, it is easier said than done. Not all people up here are like me, most don’t even see people down there as humans, they are machines, if not worse.”

“I know, but you have the power, you have the authori-”

“Yes I know dear, but I cannot control what other people want, I can only do so much.” He said in a gentle, yet authoritative voice.

I also know that this is not as easy as it sounds. People from where I came from have developed a deep sense of hatred towards the people up here, and I totally understand where they are coming from. The people up here never go down unless they are forced to by the law, or if they needed more slaves, and even then; they hire people from the slave traders to come down and grab us as if we are products in a supermarket. Unless this treatment and mentality stops from both sides, it is never going to be a reality. With that said, I even had a hard time with the idea of being in a relationship with someone up here, let alone someone with such stature like Lord Fartimore. I personally struggled with my own feelings before coming to the conclusion that this gap should not be a barrier between my own feelings towards another individual, but sometimes thinking back, I would have never thought of this as the outcome, when in the beginning, my goal was to assassinate him.

He is genuine, he really cares for all people, regardless of stature, wealth, or class. With that, I am sure we can make the impossible happen, although it will take alot of time.

“Hey are you alright?” I heard a soothing voice whispering beside me, and realized that I have been zoned out for the past minute, staring at him.

“Oh uh, it’s nothing, just thinking about life.” I quickly got up, “Want to go sparring?”, “I’ll beat your ass again like yesterday.” I said with a smirk as I ran towards the backdoor.

“Yeah ok buddy, not a chance, today’s my day!” He said as he ran after me, smiling like a ray of sunshine on a sunny day.
