Point and Shoot

You shake the hesitation that floods your mind, and repeat to yourself a mantra: “they’re not human, they’re not human, they’re not human”.

As you gaze through the scope of the rifle you close your eyes a moment before pulling the trigger to shield yourself from the piercing eyes still calling out to you. When you open your eyes again, nothing remains in the crosshairs of the scope.

Those eyes will continue to reappear in your mind time and again for many years to come. You continue living blissfully ignorant of what exactly you did that day, until you aren’t…

Eventually society as you know it shatters, and everything you believed was a lie. You come to find that those “monsters” were humans, capable of joy, love, sadness, anger, and pain. You never do find out who was staring back at you that day when you pulled the trigger, and that nearly drives you insane. You’re a shell of a person you once were, and nothing can bring you back… Try again.

If you’ve lost your way in the IFStravaganza, you can always go back to the beginning.
