Some thoughts on my project and interactive storytelling in general

I was brainstorming a bit for the upcoming proposal and I figured that’s kind of what the sketchblogs are for so I’m sharing.

I really enjoy cozy and meaniful/emotional games but I also think simple game concepts can be really sweet and nice experiences. So I think I’m going to try and think up something like that.

I watched a really great GDC talk by some people who worked on the Stanley Parable on negotiation of choices. It helped me think a lot more about how to make interesting choices for the player in an interactive storytelling game.

The games I mentioned:

The Stanley Parable – mentioned because I think the choices and narrative are really interesting

A Short Hike – at the end of the game you tell your aunt how your day was telling her what you did. But it changes based on what you decide to do in the game

Slay the Spire – not really a story game but the path way of how you get to the boss can very greatly but you go to the same boss no matter what path way you take. Although the different paths you take will change how you play/ what powers you get etc.

Has anybody else played these games? What kind of genres do you like?

If you’ve lost your way in the IFStravaganza, you can always go back to the beginning.

I love your focus on relationships, human kindness, mental health, and a general cozy feeling in your interactive story. From the sounds of your brainstorming I would love to venture the game once you are done creating it. Some thoughts for you as well, how will the formatting and language of the game influence the feel / ambiance? How can you use it to your advantage to express your desired narrative? Have fun creating!
