Dev Log #1.1

What is Dungeons and Dragons?

Dungeons and Dragons is a roleplaying game where you gather with friends or family, interacting with the world set out by the DM (Dungeon master), and roll dice to make decisions.

In other words, you can create quite an interactive story where the players decisions really matter, and they (the players) face consequences that correlate to their decisions directly. It involves a lot of improvising. Both the players and DM need to think on their feet when faced with a decision.

It’s a lot more complicated, but that is the general idea.

But there’s an issue about a Dungeons and Dragons Campaign style story

A DND campaign is too “open” when it comes to decision making. Too many random variables are in play as the player needs to make their own decision. I am also not that great at coding, so it would be hard to have a proper medium where the player could potentially type in their answers. Which leads me to think, maybe I could write a DND campaign with concrete decisions, but that takes away the fun of the game itself.

HOWEVER, bits and pieces of this idea can be implemented in other ways, which is why I began to think about things such as High or Urban Fantasy (which involve fantasy elements in other genres). This can be seen in Fig 1.1., though you will need to ignore the text highlighted with pink (that belongs to another section).

Fig 1.1. Ideas that branch off of High Fantasy and Urban Fantasy

With this in mind, we can further see how it’s most likely not a good idea to go full fantasy as it would most likely be an ambitious and large project, especially if we were to go full Dungeons and Dragons (with interactions, items, etc.). Still, I might incorporate ideas of potentially interacting with mythical/ fantasy like characters.
