Initial ideas

for my story, I like the idea of putting the player in the role of a criminal of some sort. That could be a thief, pirate, or gang member, although I am leaning towards making them a member of more organized crime because I feel it may be easier to implement other characters that way. The main choice that the player would have to make would be to either stay in a life of crime, or choose to escape it. There would then of course be many other choices to accomplish either of those goals, and variation in the what happens if the player stays or leaves. I’ve also recently played through the Mass Effect trilogy so I want to implement some way for the players choices to effect large events in the story, and impact side characters in significant ways.

If you’ve lost your way in the IFStravaganza, you can always go back to the beginning.

I think having the main player (protagonist) be a criminal is very interesting. I think it would give you the opportunity to explore what their intentions are. As well, you can discover how they became a criminal in the first place (ie. what were the decision that led them there). Afterwards, you can give your player the opportunity to remain the way they are, or to change. Very interesting concept. How will the interactive fiction elements of your story come into play?

I was thinking of having the player’s actions determine whether or not they stay in a life of crime. They could make several choices to act out a crime or not, and depending on what they choose, they could either stay a criminal or make a more honest living. I was also thinking about having them be part of a crew so there could also be choices in how they interact with them, such as maybe deciding to turn them into the police.
