Personal understanding on interactive storytelling

At the beginning of this course, I had few ideas about what interactive storytelling is, what I thought it is like human-computer interaction. I have ever watched some videos about artificial intellgence which is about one person chats with a machine and the machine could answer all the questions that the person asks precisely.

What I think about this class is almost close to the class itself except we don’t need to make up an interactive story so smart like a human being can answer all questions presented by players. I found a huge problem as the course get started, I didn’t have a deep understanding on how to make an interactive story since all the story I wrote were linear, I didn’t know the mechanism behind interactive storytelling. But now, after having some classes, in my understanding interactive storytelling is like a game players can make their own choices and different choices may cause different plots. Sometimes, making different choices can also cause different endings which is very amazing.

Unlike traditional storytelling, I think interative storytelling can somehow make stories interesting and compelling since players can have a sense of participation while playing storytelling instead of just following a line to the end of a story. To make story easy to create and make players comfortable with storytelling creators need to take sometime to think about which structure they need to use in order to meet these consequences. That means to create an interactive story, it is never a easy thing for creators.

I think what you said is very reasonable. I have the same idea with you. I also think stories that can interact with readers are more attractive. Looking forward to your story. Good luck.
