Dev Log #2

Heya, it’s danish back on the track. After a chaotic week of planning, I finally have something concrete (er… at least what seems to be the plan for now).

The past few days have been pretty challenging, there’s no doubt. Never did I think I’d be brainstorming for 5 whole days straight, roughly 16 hours a day. I do it brushing my teeth, during my showers, during my breakfast, lunch and dinner. Even my insomnia is filled with brainstorming. I wanted to include as much substance as possible, make the story as rich as possible, but looking at it now with the amount of time I actually have to make this become a reality- I might have bit off more than I can chew. However, it’s doable (I think). Despite the slight oversight, the grind continues.

This dev log entry will mainly focus on the basic plot structure. Later dev logs will include the other stuff not mentioned here.

Below I have included an image of the “basic” plot map. Here, it includes notes that I’ve made for coming up with the plot, and the story basically. Yes, I know it looks very messy, but trust me, it works.

You can interact (zoom in and out) with the PDF, which I find more effective then a bunch of screen shots due to the way the notes are formatted.

** The highlighting is a little janky as OneNote likes to put it behind text, but when exporting it into a PDF, I suppose it likes to be in front?

Editors Note: I have yet to figure out a title for the story itself, but I think I can leave it for now. Crossing my fingers hoping my brain churns out a banger of a name later down the road.

I don’t want this dev log to be too long (as the first one got out of hand), so I’ll try to be keeping them short so it’s less of an eye sore and for the keep sake of my sanity.

On that remark, the essential parts you need to take away from the PDF is that there is a beginning, and 3 different acts within the game: Act I, Act II, and Act III. Within these acts, they contain SCP’s whom the [REDACTED] company has asked you to find some follow up information for. Essentially you’re a walking interviewer, but that seemed a little too basic so you’re also a doctor/ detective. The MC’s personality is in the air at the moment, but once I begin writing, they’ll be a little more flushed out.

In addition, taverns are used as saving points, but also house NPC’s who can be useful later throughout the story for items or additional information. However, my main priority at the moment is to write the main plot first. I’m not saying I will be putting off the side characters. They shouldn’t be just thrown into the story for filler, or a second thought, but they also don’t have to be complex when compared to the main cast of characters that need to be included.

Last but not least, there are also side areas (indicated in green circles), which are not only used for side quests, but also main quests (these are talked in a later dev log).

I think that’s all I have to say for this dev log. Super short (sorta), but very concise. I think after this planning though, everything should be running smoothly 🙂

If you’ve lost your way in the IFStravaganza, you can always go back to the beginning.
