The process of my mind map

For now, I think I have done my mind map and I feel that come up an idea to make mind map and story makes sense is really painful. Because there is a lot of branches I need to think of, I need to connect each of these and combine them as a whole one and then make some branches again, like the large block building structure we’ve talked about in the class. Small block building structure is not a desirable structure for me since it is very hard for creator (me) to lead each branch on a right track. But I think the problem for my mind map is that no matter how players make their own choices in a turning point, the story itself will come back to the same plot that the story will be in another choice. What I am trying to say is like a man running on a 400 meters playground, his goal is running to the center point of the playground and he has many choices to do so, he can choose a straight line to go over there or some other ways to go over there but the destination is the same. As a result of this, I am wondering if it is suitable to make such a mind map and apply it to my interactive story?

    I definitely understand how difficult it is to account for so many choices that results in distinct story paths. I know a lot of games such as Telltale’s The Walking Dead which advertise a wide range of choices the player can make, struggle with making meaningful choices as the story is rather linear on a wider scale. Choices such as which character you want to save is rather pointless when that character just ends up dying later anyway. The only other way around this is to create a whole new story based on a branching choice path, but that may be quite unfeasible given the time frame. A compromise may be only expanding on a small amount of major choices that lead into their own story.
