To determine endings I will not use a percentage of certain choices made since I do not have the technical knowledge to do so. Instead I will have certain choices lead into certain paths, the paths being the 1 of 4 endings. Certain choices will keep the player within that ending that they put themselves on since the first major choice. Some choices will allow the player to shift the motivations of their character, which will allow them to be put onto another story path. The player will only be able to move to a path that is close in ideology. To explain, let’s take one of the extreme endings as an example. Looking at the mostly intent on leaving, thus resulting in the player reporting the crew to the police ending. The ending that is closest in viewpoint to this ending is the leave peacefully and live a quiet life. So if the player does not to be so intent and extreme when it comes to leaving and dismantling the crew they can shift their story path depending on the choices they make. However they can only shift over to the peacefully leave ending at first. Once they are in that ending, that story path will be close to the stay but reduce the amount of robberies and the leave + report to police ending. So the player will be able to move to either of those endings depending on their choices. The player will not be able to move to one extreme ending to the other in one choice, they will need several choices to get to one ending to the other. If the player wants one of the extreme endings, they need already be on a path leading to the less extreme version of that ending.

Hi Sean! This seems like it is going to be a great story! How are you planning to implement the game play? Will it be text based or will it be more like a video game? Good luck, and keep up the good work!

Hi, this article really gives me some hints, I struggled a lot to make my story’s ending better, and I’ll definitely borrow some thoughts from your blog!
