Using a New Tool

Originally, I was deciding between making a PowerPoint or YouTube video for this project but I found planning became very hard to do when I was using a Miro board to plan, Google Doc for a script, and then a PowerPoint to put it all together. It was hard to keep track of my paths and it was all getting really messy. For example, the photo attached below. There were so many paths leading to one scenario, and my numbering system was getting more than complicated to keep track of.

I decided to look into other beginner-friendly tools and found Twine to be a really interesting one! I think it suits my storytelling needs and a classmate has given me a good YouTube playlist of tutorial videos to help me get started! This adjustment is going to set me a few steps back, but I hope I end up saving more time in the long run.

If you’ve lost your way in the IFStravaganza, you can always go back to the beginning.

I hope switching to a new engine hasn’t set you too far back. I like Twine because it doesn’t expect you to be an expert on coding, which I am definitely not. I can imagine keeping track of where each choice goes would be a nightmare with YouTube or PowerPoint, scrolling through every video or slide sounds like it would get tedious after a while. I’ve found Twine’s format with how it shows you where each section leads to super helpful in my project as well.

I envy your willingness to try a new engine to complete your story, I often worry that I will fail when I try to do something in a new way, you will succeed!

I hope Twine works for you, I found it a little challenging but I applaud your willingness. The numbering system was an interesting approach that I’m sad didn’t work out in the end. I would look into maybe using multiple mediums in the future, like youtube and twine or something like that.
