Changes to Story 🙁

When I wrote my story, I think I was so overambitious to add a character when the player decides to play the game again. My original plan was for the player to get through the story the first time, but only a “neutral ending” or a “bad ending” could be achieved. The “good ending” was only achievable in the second playthrough. Since the protagonist character that I designed is trying to find her memories, certain scenes will remind her of a character who isn’t directly introduced in the first playthrough. That character was supposed to be unlocked in the second playthrough and if the player decides to pick his “route” then the “true ending” triggers.

To evoke a sense of wanting to play again, I wanted to add a screen after the story ends to tell the player which ending they achieved. For example, it would show up as “NEUTRAL ENDING” after completing the story. Then, if the player decides to play the game again to get the “good ending”, I wanted to introduce the character whom the player could interact with… except the coding is a little out of my skill range haha.

So unfortunately, I had to remove that character and make a few tweaks in my story so that the memory-finding component is still relevant and makes sense. It’s a little disappointing that I wasn’t able to figure that part out, but for the sake of time, I think it was a reasonable decision.

If you’ve lost your way in the IFStravaganza, you can always go back to the beginning.
