Title: “Life is about picking a right choice”

The timeline for the story will be set in 2019 (Covid19 outbreak). This character is a real estate agent in Hong Kong named Jack who is one of the leaders of the sales team in a real estate agency firm.Everything was going well, but the pandemic has changed everything.  Three months into the spread of the pandemic, the company announced a reduction in headcount, pay cuts and lower commission rates. This gave Jack the idea of starting a business. Although starting a business can make him earn more money than he does now, the price of starting a business is to give up this high-paying job and platform.  And due to the terms of the contract, the company cannot be established within three months of leaving the company.  These factors make Jack hesitate.

Option 1: Start a business

After a few days of deliberation, Jack decided to resign. Because he has accumulated more than 15 years of work experience and network in this industry. In other words, he feels that the platform provided by the company is no longer the factor that determines his success.  Because of the terms of the company contract, it was illegal for Jack to start his own company within three months of his resignation.  But this will not affect him to discuss business with customers. In the past three months, he began to look for experts in different regions to discuss cooperation, so that the customer base will expand again. In addition to this, he also makes exclusive sales requests to owners who intend to sell their homes. The owner also accepted Jack’s request. The main reason is that the severe epidemic has caused many restaurants and brick-and-mortar stores to suffer bleak business, and many tenants have asked landlords to reduce rents. This phenomenon makes owners want to sell their properties for cash. After receiving the entrustment from the owners, Jack began to look for interested buyers. As long as he found a suitable buyer within these three months, he could reach an agreement in the name of his company to reduce the profits tax. Later, he closed the deal with the right buyer and owner and received the first commission. This sale and purchase agreement not only gave him the funds to expand the company, but also made him famous in the luxury real estate market.  Later, many customers came to him to buy and sell luxury houses. The size of the company has grown with the size of his business.

Option 2: Stay in the company and work hard

Jack is reluctant to step out of his comfort zone, he is afraid of risks. So finally choose to continue to work in the company.  Although his salary and commission have been cut in half from before the epidemic. But he still believes that the company is his strong backing. He is very grateful for the opportunity and support that the company has given him at such a difficult time, so he works around the clock to sell the properties held by the company to customers as quickly as possible to help the company solve the cash flow problem. After some hard work, he spent 3 months selling 80% of the company’s properties. He is optimistic that the company will tide over the difficulties smoothly. Unfortunately, what he doesn’t know is that the debt owed by the company is far more than what he brought to the company. Despite the government’s financial assistance and the company’s efforts for several months, it is still unable to bear the huge debt and losses caused by the epidemic. In the end, he became a member of the company who was laid off by the company.
