I Continue Listening (A14)

You continue listening to the interview, curious to see where it will lead. Bill intervenes, “So you had left the church, but you didn’t? I bet that would create tension in your relationship”. He continues, “Did she threaten to leave you? Is that what happened? I could imagine the fights … Is that why you killed her?”.

Allen responds wearily, “No, of course not!”

Bill attempts to clarify, “Or did she turn away from the gospel too?” I say.

Allen explains, “No, it’s the opposite. Her testimony was unbreakable, the perfect Mormon girl. She came here to Utah to help build up the church, support it.” he takes a deep breath,

“Now I think I am responsible for this …”

“What for?!” Bill quickly interrupts.

Allen continues his explanation, “Reeling her in, keeping her in it. Everyone in this town thinks that their testimony is bullet proof. That they know our history, the gospel, all our … truth, but they don’t.

Bill tentatively listens, nods, and then Allen says.

“Let me tell you this, if they feel certain, that certain … they don’t know a thing, sir. My only regret is that I didn’t drive her out of Zion. To save her from our people. To get her as far away from all of this as I could”.

If you’ve lost your way in the IFStravaganza, you can always go back to the beginning.
