Interactive Story Planning

Miro Link to planning, Mind Map, ETC.

Detailed explanations will be further discussed on this page.

As I watch a lot of anime, and read manga, many of my inspirations will be taken from this category, and animation works. As for the genre of the interactive story, I am leaning towards my own favorite genre which is Romance, and slice of life. This genre is often relatable to many people in real life, although some experiences may differ, the genre talks about many social issues and scenarios that can happen to anybody, anywhere around the world. Although they may differ slightly due to cultural influences, The story often includes aspects that people will understand in general.

My Interactive story takes a lot of inspiration from 2 specific animations. One of which is a movie called: A Silent Voice. Where A girl was bullied because she was deaf by this one boy, and the boy realized his mistakes later and attempts to correct them. I will not spoil the ending of it in case anyone here is interested in watching it but, the topic of bullying is something that exists in all cultures, around the world. Therefore, the commonality creates a sense of connection for everyone. (P.S. the animation of this movie is beautiful, you guys should watch.)

Secondly, I took a lot of inspiration from an anime series named Tokyo Revengers. Which has a general plotline of a regular person with nothing special gets teleported back in time to save a girl he knew back in school from getting involved in gangs in Tokyo.

Both of these had very unique aspects that I thought would create an interesting fiction that would be fun to read, but still serves a purpose such as bullying prevention.

For the Miro Board, I started in a similar way to how IFStravaganza began. By Finding some Plot Ideas, Setting, Characters, Goals ETC.

Through these, I eventually figured out a working Idea that would incorporate some of each category. I have also decided here that I wanted to tell a story, rather than having the heavy interactiveness of a game, I wanted the story to be the main focus, while still offering some choices for advancement to the player.

From here on, I started with a Mind map to plot out how the story will advance.

This is very general, and not the best wording, but it gets the point across, more details will be established when actual story writing comes into the picture.

As you can see here, the story although gives options for players to chose, a lot of it ends up into one same ending, because of the heavy focus I want to put on telling the story, and story immersion rather than game interactivity

This is my initial plans on how to initiate the portion where he travels back in time.

I think the sketch blog is already a good platform to narrate a story. So I will be using the sketchblog to create the story, and each of the branches to the story.

If you’ve lost your way in the IFStravaganza, you can always go back to the beginning.

When you say that your inspiration will be from animation works, does this mean that you are going to do some sort of animations for your project? There is nothing wrong with Twine at all, but it’d be really cool to see some other types of work too like an animation or flipbook with some form of interactivity. Either way, I’m excited to see what you’ve got planned!

Thx for the inspiration. This is the first time that i learnt things from anime. It is interesting when you mention the connection between the anime and the reality of life.
