A few more children have gathered around so you gesture towards the little girl and the boy kicks it her way so a circle forms. We pass the uneven ball back and forth in the dim corridor a crowd gathers and encourages us on. The boy’s mother calls him and he must leave. Bringing the fun comes to a halt and almost as it never happened the crowd ripples back to normalcy. All except for an older man who approaches me. He shares his appreciation and explains what it is like living in the Underground. My thoughts only drift back to the door when he offers me a place to sleep in exchange for some community service.
