1. Premise and Purpose: What is the core concept of your interactive story? What are you trying to do with it?
The core concept of my story is a story set in a fantasy world where the protagonist is a former knight and current adventurer visiting a moderately sized village on the outskirts of the Kingdom of Kithage.
What are you trying to do with it?
For this story I’m trying to create an engaging story where you, (the player) are following the life of the protagonist and can alter the way he views things or his actions in meaningful ways, ultimately changing either his personality to be either good or bad based on your decisions. I am most likely going to choose twine and my plot will be a branching structure but it will be slightly more constrained than the typical branching structure because I feel like I have more control over what I want out of the story in regard to the ending and important key plot points throughout the story (although I may change this or other aspects when I actually create the story so it is subject to change).
What are the core story components, such as characters, setting, and basic plot? Why are they interesting and compelling? Who is your player?
My story will have a protagonist with a past trauma or past experience(s) that can also influence the options you can choose from, but that also gives a sense of richness to my story as well. This protagonist is as I have stated before, is a former knight turned adventurer who is looking for a new life on the outskirts of his kingdom. He’s a somewhat broken man trying to find a new purpose in his life. He is aged 22 and has one arm (the other was presumably lost during his past trauma?). As for other characters, I know I want him to have a companion that he will find in the village, a gatekeeper that helps him in some way (mostly for revealing info on the world and the protag), a child that also helps him find a strange building, a knight commander, and a few more integral characters later on in the story that will either help or be obstacles for him. My characters will be interesting because they will have reasons for their actions whether it be motivated from their past experiences or actions that you (the player) make throughout the story. I also hope to give detailed descriptions of the characters that add to their mystery, their background, and the overall plot. For my main plot I plan to have the Protagonist visit the village -> meet companion -> tower->dragon->betrayal->fight the knight-> THE END.
What are the interactive elements? How will they be meaningful to the story or
concept of the work?
I plan to give a decent amount of detail to my worldbuilding by incorporating it wherever I can during the story. For example say my character enters a room and describes a note placed on the ground. The player would be able to click on the note and read the contents of it which will further add to my plot and/or worldbuilding ideas. Aside from the typical 1-3 choices of each segment or page I dont have anymore interactivity ideas to incorporate at the moment.
4. How will you implement? What is your current plan for making your story? Do you have all the skills and tools you need, or are you looking for tools?
I plan to use twine to implement my story because it is best suitable for my interactive pieces that I want to add into my story. I also plan to use a program called MidJourney which is an ai generating picture program that I plan to use at certain parts of the story (ex: characters, landscapes, creatures, etc…) although the best program to use currently for this idea is still in its beta phase so I might or might not use it.
Extra info:
Who is your story for, what might they enjoy? Why would your story appeal to them? How will you keep it engaging?
I think my story is for readers who want to enjoy a story that is relatively realistic but not too over the top. They should mainly be reading it if they enjoy fantasy and a slight bit of drama as well. I want them to use their head while also not feel like they’re obligated to use their head so much that it explodes. I hope the little bits of optional information that I leave in the world and pictures helps to keep them engaged in my story.
What medium or tools will you use? What genre of story are you making?
I plan to use Twine for the creation and MidJourney for the ai generated images.
Can the player win or lose?
Currently, I plan to have the character die at specific choices within the story, of which afterwards they can revert back to the previous page. Although, most choices will just be choices that you as the player have to live with as the story progresses.
What role does the player take on?
The character will take on the role of a specific character within a pre-established world. It is not a “choose 1 of 3 characters on the screen” type of game.
