In this post, I will be sharing some of the text from my interactive story. Keep in mind that it does cover very sensitive and graphic subjects, so read at your own discretion. You will also see (*TL) which indicates a in text text link. We will also be introduced to a new character, Bill Taba, a fellow detective. I look forward to reading your feedback, thanks!
A3_Night of the Crime
I arrived on scene, a little duplex in Ogden, east of Salt Lake. Emergency vehicles are already on scene, crowding the small streets. It is dark outside, and the lights reflect off the windows as I approach the house. The front door is unlocked and cracked open. My partner Bill (*TL) and I walk in to observe the scene. Off to our right is a little living room and kitchen, to our left and hallway that leads to a couple of bedrooms. The unusual sight of a vacuum with a cut electrical cord first catches our attention. As we walk a couple feet forward, we frightfully see what it was used for. A woman is lying face first on the kitchen floor, surrounded in a pool of her own blood, her hands tied behind her back. There are wounds on her arms and hands. We examine the scene further and realize that the blood isn’t confined to the kitchen. It is smeared on the living room walls, the floor, the doors, and curtains. A clear indication that there had been a grim struggle.
Bill leads the way down the hall, and we carefully examine each room. Taking as many photos as we can. Hopefully these images capture the scene, and can help in any way to discover who committed this atrocity. The door at the end of the hall has smears of blood on the handle. It seems that the criminals made their way to this room after committing their first atrocity. We walk into what seems to be a nursery. There is a quaint rocking chair next to the window, and a little side table with a lamp. My partner begins walking towards the bassinet …
*Choice
A) I can’t take the atrocity of the crime anymore, and want to go outside (A3.1)
B) I keep my berings, hold down the disgust that I feel, and continue investigating the room (A3.2)
TL(Text Link)_Bill Taba, Talking about his personality through the protagonists eyes.
Bill and I met not too long ago, right when he began working at the police station Jan 1984. He moved to Salt Lake from Las Vegas, and is more rough around the edges than the typical cop here. It seems that he has dealt with a lot out there. He is also kind of a black sheep in this town if you know what I mean. Unlike the majority of people in his community, he isn’t a religious Mormon individual, and is of Indigenous Paiute descent. The Paiute people are in the Great Basin region of the States, and live a generally nomadic lifestyle. Overall, Bill is someone who walks to the beat of his own drum. He tends to point out things before I even get to them. When it comes to investigations, some people would say that he doesn’t see things through rose tinted glasses. Even though we bump up against each other at times, he is all round a good guy.
