Attempt at Apology

You walk up to her, but you don’t know what to really say, she stumbles back a bit, facing you in a specific way that cleverly hides her one leg over the other. You do not know if it’s because she’s still scared to be around you, or if it is because of the pain. “Hey, I-” was all you were able to get out before your tongue almost twisted upon itself.

She looks up at you, with a look of defeat in her eyes, seemingly holding back tears. Her knees quickly gave out and she fell to the floor. You instinctively catch her mid-fall and quickly helped her sit down. As you began kneeling beside her to reassure her you are not the same anymore, she flinches.
