Within a Mormon context, the term ‘Zion’ can have multiple interpretations. It may refer to people, those that are pure in heart, and radiate with the light of the gospel. Additionally, it is often referred to as a meeting place, a place of gathering, for members of the church. In its founding years, leaders of the church often counsel its members to ‘build up zion’. This included immigrating to and (or) living in a centralized location together. Nowadays, this concept is explained as a place of peace wherever the members may be. Overall, this idea of Zion can be seen as an idealistic / utopian place.
