A Captain goes down with his ship.

The blood splattered on the hull of the ship, and the tattered ropes that once held our captain confirmed our worst fears. The cook came up behind us from elsewhere on the deck.

What happened?” Was all I could ask, as the only way out should have been past us in the midsection.

The cook, eerily un-bothered by the loss of our Captain, had told me “Now is not the time to worry about that. What’s done is done. We have to focus on what to do next.” I was too in shock to notice. I was a fool.

“I don’t know if we can kill it. We should prepare to abandon ship.” said the cabin boy.

“You’re right.” I said. “But we can’t leave the ship intact for some other poor crew to happen upon.

Maybe we can kill it by blowing the ship up.” said the cabin boy. “We have stores of gunpowder and fuses, we could light it and be off before the ship went up in flames!” He was ready to be rid of the cursed monster.

I was too afraid to think clearly, and too upset at the death of our Captain to notice the cooks reaction to our plan. But there was no time to waste. And so I…

[…went to prepare the lifeboat..]

[…went to get supplies and light the fuse.]

If you’ve lost your way in the IFStravaganza, you can always go back to the beginning.
